As part of my role in HR at Shire Leasing, I have engaged with a number of local schools for career events and mock interviews. This inspired me to do something more within the education sector and I decided to become a School Governor with a local primary school.
School Governors are considered valuable members of the Senior Leadership team that add value by offering an impartial perspective to decision-making on all aspects of the running of the school. I have also been tasked with leading their fundraising campaigns in order to collect funds for much needed school equipment.
Regularly volunteering in this role gives me a huge amount of satisfaction, knowing that the best interests of the children are at the forefront of everything the governing board does. It’s great to know that you are doing everything you can so that the children have the best possible chance to do amazing things and to realise their true potential! Being able to utilise up to two paid days a year through Shire Leasing’s volunteering programme enables me to attend school governance meetings, school trips and generally helping out at the school.
