With values such as honesty and relationship being key to our ethos, Shire Leasing are spearheading an open discussion around mental health at work within the B2B asset finance industry through a #TimeToTalk day, in order to destigmatise the topic and break down stereotypes.
Organised in conjunction with the Leasing Foundation and Lombard/RBS, the ticketed event takes place on 16th May from 5-7pm in Bishopsgate, London, during Mental Health Awareness Week 2019. The event will include hosted #TimeToTalk tables to discuss mental health with other industry peers, talks will be delivered from high-profile speakers and there will be a closing panel discussion; all coinciding with hot drinks and refreshments for the vintage tea theme. There will also be networking opportunities later in the evening.
As a company that embraces diversity and inclusion, Shire Leasing signed the Charter for Employers who are positive about Mental Health back in 2017, which is part of an NHS Trust Mindful Employer initiative.
We also support the ‘Time to Change’ campaign (who are also supporting the event) by organising an annual #TimeToTalk event where employees are invited to a “Vintage Tea” room during their work day to casually discuss mental health with their colleagues, whilst enjoying a hot drink and cakes served by managers – it was the success of these internal events that acted as the catalyst to open the discussion up to the wider industry.
“We all have mental health, whether it’s good or bad” says Helen Lumb, Chief Financial Officer for Shire Leasing, and key organiser. “It’s vital that employers take on a more active role in normalising the issue and supporting their employees who may be suffering from poor mental health.
“We have speakers at this event who have had mental health issues and are keen to share their experiences to try and destigmatise this topic and bring it out of the shadows”.
