Shire employees took part in the fifth charity day of the year, in line with our 2016 CSR initiative. This month, the charity we supported was the Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary.
On 27th May 2016, all Shire Leasing employees had a dress down day and came together to donate suitable items that could be used by the Sanctuary, ranging from pet food and toys to old duvets and blankets. The outcome was fantastic, resulting in a room full of products that will be used to care for animals.
The team at the sanctuary were extremely grateful when a couple of our employees, Lisa Anderson and Anne Rayer, kindly volunteered to take the van full of donations to the Sanctuary, where they also got to meet some of the resident animals that are being cared for. Marty the owl was rescued from being mistreated and now joins the Sanctuary team on talks about preventing animal cruelty. Whilst Bramble the deer and Roxy the fox have both been hand reared from a young age.
Since it opened in 2011, the Sanctuary has rescued over 10,000 sick, injured and abandoned birds and animals! The animals are given medication, rest and recuperation to prepare them for their release back into the wild. The Sanctuary runs entirely on donations and could not continue to provide this high level of care without this kind of support.
At Shire, we support our employees to devote ‘work time’ throughout the year to get involved in volunteering at charities.
