On the 17th of June, 4 of Shire’s finest ladies embarked on their 9 mile walk in Lichfield, known as the Solstice Walk. This is a major event where 100s of people dust off their childhood fairy wings and tutus, and head out to support St. Giles Hospice, a truly magical event.
Although St. Giles receives some fundraising from the Government it relies heavily on donations and fundraising. Which is why these events are so important. The Shire ladies were joined by over 850 others, all eager to support the charity and help raise more than the £85,000 raised the year before.
A sea of pink and blue balloons are released before the walk begins to remember those loved ones that have passed. A very emotional yet wonderful experience.
Shire Leasing’s Pam O’Neill, Becky Windridge, Amy Winspear and Stacy Shuter all completed the walk in style within 2.5 hours and a gathered over £800 from sponsorships!
Shire also wanted to continue fundraising for the cause and on the 23rd of June employees donated £1 to take part in a charity dress down day.
St. Giles Hospice is one of our chosen charities for 2017, stemming from our CSR committee. Their main aim is to provide high quality medical and nursing care for people suffering from serious illnesses such as cancer, as well as offering support to fellow family members and carers. If you would like to learn more about St Giles and what they do please visit their website.
We will continue our monthly charity days with the next event taking place on July 28th in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.
A final WELL DONE to the ladies that took part in the walk, and a great thank you to all employees who raised £139.60. Shire Leasing PLC will match this, totaling a donation of £279.20.
